where is it that darkness resides?

Bugs.

Heh.

There are giant ants walking down the streets.

I've decided. I'm perfectly fine with bugs of the normal variety, where you can easily squash them by stepping on them. Huge ones that can eat you alive or snap you in half, as some people have been saying aren't as endurable.

Hmm, guess I have to make a dash for the elevator while one of these things is distracted.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, the day before all those bottles with the wings just disappeared, I managed to shoot one down. The thing that fell out... its just a symbol at the end of a chain. Kind of like a heart.

Ugh, here, I'll attempt to draw it.

And here I was hoping it'd be of some use to me. All it does is make my head hurt.

Aaaaand I'm weaponless against a horde of ants. Fun.

These sounds are kinda... well... weird. I mean, first we have that nightmare thing, and now we're being evacuated... to the wilderness? What the hell is going on?

Yeah, I haven't exactly been reading this thing religiously, so I'm a bit behind in everything that's happening. The noises have been kinda distracting, after all.

I'm still short on money... anyone going to the scavenger yard that I could tag along with? Or... anyone want to go with me? I don't trust this place enough to go anywhere by myself, but I need the money. Stupid Charger, I never did find him when I still had that laser.

Oh yeah, I need a place to stay once they kick me out of the newcomer housing stuff. Can't really pay for one of my own just yet, but I swear I'll make enough to pay for food and stuff. Honest. Anyone feeling nice enough to help me out? Or... could someone steer me in the direction of some cheap housing?

During the laser event I met this... kid. Well, I didn't meet him exactly, just caught sight of him before dodging his shots. There was something... eerily familiar about him. He was riding a giant butterfly, anyone know who he is?

[handwriting is shaky and somewhat light, as if it was written with very little strength]

My chest hurts.

Badly.

I'm not... sure what it is, but maybe I need a doctor? Should I wait until this stupid armor is gone... or...

Shit, it hurts.

It feels like... there's something clawing at my heart, like something's pulling at it, trying to rip it out of my chest.

... I wake up from a "shout out in your sleep and nearly wet the bed" nightmare and find a... gun strapped to my side? And armor? Um... what the hell? Is this one of those "random occurrence" things I heard about?

On that note, this place is pretty damn confusing. What with the pods, and the guns, and the whole living in a tree thing. Not to mention the fact that I have no memory and was forced to choose a completely unoriginal name it was either this or Runt... goddamn useless guide Didn't help that my first experience to this... place was an idiot named Charger.

Oh, what's this? "The more people you hit, the more money you earn?"

...

HELL YES

Since I was told this is viewable to other people, and that we shouldn't go into the wilderness alone, anyone in red armor want to team upand beat the shit out of the blues?

It was dark. Pure enveloping darkness. It pressed on the eyes, dampened the lungs, and seemed to settle on every inch of his body. He couldn’t tell up from down, right for left. He didn’t know if he was standing or laying down, or maybe just flying through the air. All that he did know was that somewhere far away there was something he was walking towards, something that he was moving to.

As he walked on in that vast realm of darkness, his memories and thoughts falling away into nothing but wisps of smoke, the light seemed to grow greater and greater… until he was suddenly looking at a cloaked man in front of him.

There was something behind that man, unattainable, almost invisible, but he could just make out the gentle crash of ocean waves and the outline of palm trees framed by a setting sun.

The man in front of him smirked, and the boy couldn’t help but feel threatened. He knew that he knew the man. He wasn’t looking at a complete stranger. He knew because… it almost felt like looking a mirror and seeing himself. But, he knew it wasn’t his exact reflection. The other was too tall, his skin too tan… and there was just this uneasy feeling that wouldn’t go away.

He took a step forward, mouth forming words his mind had long since forgotten, and suddenly, behind the cloaked man he caught the glimpse of red pants and brown hair, a hand waving energetically and a blurred mouth calling out a silent greeting, and as his foot touched the ground, darkness sprang up, tightening around him and covering him once more, dragging him down and down and down further and further for an eternity, until he just closed his eyes and allowed sleep to take him, curling up and hoping that when he landed it wouldn’t hurt.
