I'm perfectly fine with bugs of the normal variety, where you can easily squash them by stepping on them. Huge ones that can eat you alive or snap you in half, as some people have been saying aren't as endurable.

Hmm, guess I have to make a dash for the elevator while one of these things is distracted.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, the day before all those bottles with the wings just disappeared, I managed to shoot one down. The thing that fell out... its just a symbol at the end of a chain. Kind of like a heart.

Ugh, here, I'll attempt to draw it.

[ooc: Hopefully this is okay? Its just the keychain for his keyblade, he doesn't even know what it is yet xD except it kinda makes his chest and head hurt looking at it <s>Ansem's sooo gonna pop out soon and get them both killed by the giant ants, I just know it xD</s>. He just kind of sketched the symbol in, so imagine white where the red is, and make it slightly more sloppy xD]

And here I was hoping it'd be of some use to me. All it does is make my head hurt.

Aaaaand I'm weaponless against a horde of ants. Fun.

These sounds are kinda... well... weird. I mean, first we have that nightmare thing, and now we're being evacuated... to the wilderness? What the hell is going on?

Yeah, I haven't exactly been reading this thing religiously, so I'm a bit behind in everything that's happening. The noises have been kinda distracting, after all.

I'm still short on money... anyone going to the scavenger yard that I could tag along with? Or... anyone want to go with me? I don't trust this place enough to go anywhere by myself, but I need the money. <s>Stupid Charger, I never did find him when I still had that laser.</s>

Oh yeah, I need a place to stay once they kick me out of the newcomer housing stuff. Can't really pay for one of my own just yet, but I swear I'll make enough to pay for food and stuff. Honest. Anyone feeling nice enough to help me out? Or... could someone steer me in the direction of some cheap housing?

During the laser event I met this... kid. Well, I didn't meet him exactly, just caught sight of him before dodging his shots. There was something... eerily familiar about him. He was riding a giant butterfly, anyone know who he is?

All that he did know was that somewhere far away there was something he was walking towards, something that he was moving to.
As he walked on in that vast realm of darkness, his memories and thoughts falling away into nothing but wisps of smoke, the light seemed to grow greater and greater… until he was suddenly looking at a cloaked man in front of him.

There was something behind that man, unattainable, almost invisible, but he could just make out the gentle crash of ocean waves and the outline of palm trees framed by a setting sun.

The man in front of him smirked, and the boy couldn’t help but feel threatened. He knew that he knew the man. He wasn’t looking at a complete stranger. He knew because… it almost felt like looking a mirror and seeing himself. But, he knew it wasn’t his exact reflection. The other was too tall, his skin too tan… and there was just this uneasy feeling that wouldn’t go away.

He took a step forward, mouth forming words his mind had long since forgotten, and suddenly, behind the cloaked man he caught the glimpse of red pants and brown hair, a hand waving energetically and a blurred mouth calling out a silent greeting, and as his foot touched the ground, darkness sprang up, tightening around him and covering him once more, dragging him down and down and down further and further for an eternity, until he just closed his eyes and allowed sleep to take him, curling up and hoping that when he landed it wouldn’t hurt.

He’s not quite bipolar, at least not that his doctors can tell, but he tends to have a short temper that can rear its ugly head at any given moment. However, his “temper” isn’t exactly normal either. Where most people would rage and say nasty things when angry, Riku has the unnerving ability to remain calm and just give off an uneasy vibe. He’s mastered the evil eye and the thousand-yard stare, so whenever he’s in a really foul mood he can normally ward off others without even opening his mouth.

In general, however, Riku’s just a quiet, solitary type of person. While he does interact with people and enjoys it to a certain point, he’s just not very sociable. He rarely shows emotions to others and remains indifferent in disputes, opting to read rather than get involved in fights or extracurricular activities. Even on his training and delivery jobs he’s rather distant, doing his best work with as few words possible. He never wastes a second of time on trivial things (reading and spacing out in his room definitely do not count), and as such his antisocial behavior and clear “keep away” glares and sharp tongue tend to keep the would-be admirers or friends away.

However, there are a certain few people who have managed to worm their way under his icy exterior, and to them he is perhaps the most loyal friend ever. Sure, he’s kind of disappeared off the face of the earth for a few months, but for the most part he’s a strong, silent pillar of support who either adds in just the right amount of teasing to start a playful fight of either fists or words, or who just relaxes and acts like a normal teenaged boy should act. Around these types of people Riku’s generally relaxed and open, his cold, strong front is abandoned in favor of a teasing, more childish demeanor that normally results in stupid battles for “king of the hill” among some of his friends. However, as mentioned before, these types of people are few in Riku’s life, and he’s perfectly content to keep it that way.

Now, ever since he woke up in Edensphere, Ansem’s presence has been driving him slowly mad, shortening his temper and making him irritable and tired. He doesn’t know that there’s someone else inside of him, just that his heart seems to hurt every now and then and he has periods where he just blacks out and doesn’t remember anything. As such, he’s become a tad more paranoid as well.

BACKGROUND:
[ooc note: I have absolutely no clue about what happens in the newest Kingdom Hearts game <s>I can’t even remember the name >.></s> so I’m just skipping that part of Riku’s history xD]

Growing up nestled in the safety of his mother and father’s house on a large, peaceful island, Riku was a somewhat sheltered boy. However, he didn’t have the same spoiled temperament that many of the children on the island tended to develop. Something that helped aid the formation of their little “Destiny Island Gang” that consisted of him, Sora, Kairi, Selphie, Wakka, and Tidus. They would have play fights, create their own adventures in the dense jungle, and they even seemed to have their own hierarchy. As one of the oldest and one of the strongest, Riku seemed to naturally inherit the leadership role.

Life had been going fine on the islands, completely uninterrupted from its lazy monotony, until Riku and Sora saw a girl fall from the sky. Almost instantly, Riku grew to both love and hate Kairi. She intrigued him, spurred thoughts and ideas in him that had remained dormant for so many years. Where had she come from? How did she get to the islands? Was there more land on the other side of the sea? Or maybe… an entirely different world lay out there, just waiting for them to go and visit. For those reasons and the fact that Kairi was a faithful friend, Riku loved her like a sister, sometimes just a tad more. However, in his mind Sora had always come first, and watching his best friend fall head over heels in love with Kairi pushed all his jealousy buttons. As such, Riku never had the “attached at the hip” friendship with Kairi, but they were close, closer than he was to Selphie, Wakka, or Tidus anyways.

Now, a few years down the road when Riku was a young child of eight, he had found a door in a secret cave, a door with a keyhole in it, a door swathed in darkness and utterly irresistible. While he didn’t entirely remember that incident, the seeds of darkness were planted inside of him that day, growing slowly and steadily until they came to a bud on one stormy day on the islands. It was then that the door to the heart of their world started creaking open, and the heartless swarmed the “play” island the children had claimed. Darkness swept in, and Riku, in his quest to get away to other worlds, readily succumbed to it, trying to bring Sora with him. However, the brunet didn’t come, and Riku found himself alone in the darkness, fighting his way through heartless even as the first cold grip of the dark stuck its claws in, intent at ripping apart his light and turning him into a Heartless.

He struggled for a while against the dark until he met a woman, a beautiful woman who seemed to genuinely want to help him. She gave him a sword she called Soul Eater, a sword that would eventually help him in his quest to find his friends. It was only much later on that Riku would realize what Maleficent’s true intentions were, and they were anything but helpful to him. But, Maleficent and Soul Eater helped him not only reach Sora, but to find Kairi as well. However, Maleficent had already started spinning her lies, making him turn to the darkness more and more and think of Sora as the friend who betrayed him. He became Maleficent’s helpful servant, controlling the Heartless in his quest to find Kairi’s heart. He ran into Sora a couple more times, each encounter getting more and more bitter and closer and closer to a final battle. Every day his heart was getting more and more eclipsed by darkness, so that by the time Sora arrived in Hallow Bastion and Riku took his keyblade and his friends, it didn’t take much of a push to have him give into a man who promised him power enough to defeat Sora and save Kairi. A man who called himself Ansem.

As soon as Ansem took control of his body, however, the veil of lies and deceit fell away, and Riku began gathering his strength for a battle for his body against the entity that had invaded it. His efforts helped Sora defeat Ansem while he was still in Riku’s body, but after that he was pushed down and forced to sleep in Ansem’s body as he went about his final plans for acquiring Kingdom Hearts. The next time he awoke was when Ansem’s presence was pushed back by the light from Kingdom Hearts, and his body regained its true, original form. Riku was back… but not for long. He helped Sora and the King close Kingdom Hearts and lock it with the ultimate sacrifice of having both himself and the King trapped inside. With the last words “take care of her” passed on to Sora, Riku allowed himself to fall into darkness once again.

He awoke just a short while after to a voice that presented him with an option. He could either go back to sleep in the place between darkness and light, or he could go and seek the truth, no matter how painful it may have seemed. Riku, being as stubborn as ever, chose to reawaken and was transported to Castle Oblivion, where he started a wild goose chase with Ansem, determined to defeat the darkness in his heart and to defeat Ansem once and for all. He fought his way through the castle, gaining encouragement not to fall to the darkness only from King Mickey, but even then it wasn’t much use. It was during this time that Riku encountered Vexen and unwillingly gave the Organization member data needed to create a Riku Replica. Needless to say, Riku fought the Replica and defeated him, causing the replica to run off. It wasn’t long after this that the constant battles caused Riku’s darkness to surface again, until he was forced to embrace it in a battle against Zexion. It was after this, when Riku was transported to Twilight Town, that he met DiZ and Naminé. After fighting and defeating Ansem, Riku locked the other entity within his heart and took on his guise in order to control the darkness within his own heart.

For one year after these events Riku travelled as both his blindfolded self and Ansem into the world of the Organization, searching for a way to wake Sora up from his dream-like state inside DiZ’s pod. It was along this way that he met Roxas, and after being defeated by him once, he fully embraced the darkness inside of him and brought Sora’s nobody to DiZ in the mansion of Twilight Town, where he would live until Sora’s memories were completely recovered. After Roxas reunited with Sora and the brunet awoke, Riku faded into the background, constantly watching over the progression of things from the background, making sure that Sora kept going in the right direction while simultaneously making sure Kairi was okay and taking orders from DiZ. However, he managed to loose Kairi as Axel inexplicably stepped in, and even seemed to loose Sora for a while. He knew that Sora was headed towards The World that Never was, so he opened a portal into the darkness and stepped through…

… And that was when everything changed.

TIMELINE: Starts from when Sora first goes to The World that Never Was. Riku hadn’t met up with him yet, but the change of worlds and the loss of his memories shocked his body back into his normal form. However, Ansem is a constant presence in his heart, and even though Ansem doesn’t know who he is either, he knows he wants power and revenge, and Riku doesn’t exactly know how to stop him anymore.

DREAM: It was dark. Pure enveloping darkness. It pressed on the eyes, dampened the lungs, and seemed to settle on every inch of his body. He couldn’t tell up from down, right for left. He didn’t know if he was standing or laying down, or maybe just flying through the air.
